CHRIS HOLSTEN

It's no exaggeration that the past few years for Chris Holsten have been extraordinary – he can look back at 230 million streams, numerous number one singles on the radio, Spellemann Awards, P3 Gold Awards, more platinum, and gold certifications than one can count, sold-out concerts across the country, and the icing on the cake - Oslo Spektrum sold out twice in just over a year.

Chris Holsten became one of the country’s biggest artists when he released the single “Smilet I ditt eget speil” in 2021. The song topped the radio charts for many weeks and has achieved 8x platinum certification with over 30 million streams so far. He followed up with singles like “For evig” and “Slå hjerte, slå”, and his debut album “Bak en fasade” was released in two parts in 2021 and 2022. The album has streamed 80 million times (3x platinum certified), and Holsten received both “Song of the Year” and “Artist of the Year” awards at P3 Gull, as well as the Norwegian Grammy Award for “Song of the Year” for the second year in a row for “Smilet i ditt eget speil” (“Hvis verden” 2020).

Chris rounded off 2022 with a sold-out concert at Oslo Spektrum, and then he returned just over a year later (January 20th, 2024) and sold it out again. He describes it as a childhood dream come true, and the experience of being on stage at Spektrum was one of the wildest of his life.

In between these Oslo Spektrum shows, Chris followed up his success debut with the new album “Gå bli lykkelig, du” on September 22nd 2023, which was just certified gold in Norway.

– I needed to explore myself and do something different, Chris Holsten said when he released the first single “Rekk Opp Hånda” in the spring 2023. He then followed up with the singles “I eget selskap” and “Tre sekunder”, which in many ways kicked off the album, as the songs capture the essence of the album’s themes.

– “Gå bli lykkelig, du” describes the consequences of being in your own company until you’re ready to feel again. I’ve had to get to know myself, let go and stick with it, says the artist from Lillestrøm. On the new album, he continues to explore himself and isn’t afraid to delve into the tender and honest. Holsten sings about everything that could have been, everything that never was, and perhaps most importantly, moving forward.

– I’ve never concealed the fact that there are a lot of emotions and darkness in me, and I want to be honest about it. Hopefully, it can be comforting and helpful to others, says Holsten, who has often expressed that writing is the best kind of therapy for him.

In January 2024, Chris released a new single titled “unnskyld, forlåt” with Swedish artist Thomas Stenström, and going into the summerfestival season of 2024, Chris will be in the limelight once more with a concertfilm from Oslo Spektrum and the new single Unge til vi dør, taken from "Gå bli lykkelig, du"
